Hawaii - Oahu

Oh hawaii, how you’ve managed to capture my heart is a mystery to absolutely no one.

Hawaii and I are no strangers. I’m extremely fortunate that growing up, I used to visit the Hawaiian islands quite a bit with my family and with my friend’s families. That doesn’t mean I don’t fall in love all over again, each time I visit! Over the years I’ve made my way to most of the main islands: Oahu, Maui, Kauai and The Big Island. Each has its own personality and significance, and I adore each in its own unique way. Oahu has a lit bit of everything to offer: outdoor adventures, historical monuments, night life, shopping, good food, sightseeing, surfing, or just laying out on warm sandy beach! (This could be why its the most frequented island for tourists!)
It had been nearly a decade since the time I visited Oahu and either it’s changed quite a bit since I was younger, or I just don’t remember it as well as I thought I did. We stayed in Honolulu, Waikiki and you can tell that the tourist industry has made its mark on the beautiful landscape. Hotels tower over the skyline, and crowds of tourists flocked every which way. The city has shifted to cater to tourists in a way that takes the stress out of traveling for less experienced travelers, or people just looking for a relaxing getaway with minimal pre-planning involved. All this meaning that if you’re looking to get off the beaten path - you’ll have search a little bit harder for it on this island. All of the more popular hiking trails were packed and even Manoa Falls and Koko head trail were rather crowded, considering their locations. Still, it’s easy to overlook the extra people when surrounded by such lush greenery and exquisite views. Check out some of the adventures below for a peek of what the beautiful island of Oahu has to offer!
Manoa Falls
Manoa Falls - gorgeous hike. The actual trail is far prettier than the end waterfall though in my opinion.
Wakiki - Oahu (Pro Tip: Catch this view of the city at the top of Diamond Head Trail!)
Diamond Head Trail
Kokohead
Holy Cow. Kokohead may have earned the title of #1 most difficult hike I've done. Definitely not the longest, and not the riskiest, but MAN this climb burned my legs. What makes it so much worse it that it doesn’t even look that bad. I mean, you can see the “peak” from the first step.
The view from the top is worth it though, and as always - I suggest turning around every once in awhile to take a look at the developing view as you climb. To the south you’ll see Hanauma Bay, which is beautiful of course, but… Make sure to finish the climb and see this view to the north when you reach the actual top. I noticed many people stopped a couple minutes before this view at a faux end and never actually saw this part of the hike at all!
Goofy Cafe
Goofy Cafe and Heavenly Island lifestyle are owned by the same people. Different offerings but the similarities and quality of the two menus make both of these cafes a must while on the island!

Didn't quite make it to Hanauma Bay unfortunately. The day we went the entire lot was full. Headed half a mile down the shore to play in the waves at this beautiful beach instead. Don’t be like us - make sure to get there in the morning to avoid the same misfortune.
Parasailing 1000 Feet Over Wakiki - I didn’t have a strap for my camera here and was holding on to it for dear life!
As always - the last day of any adventure is bittersweet. We were sad to leave these beautiful sunsets behind, but I know we’ll be back again someday!
